Firstly, the restaurant is named Matsuri however is seems to come up in information as Matsu Grill Company. That aside, Matrusi is a new Japanese restaurant in Darien CT which is more east-west fusion that traditional Japanese, although all the sushi staples are available.

Matsuri is a new restaurant where everything flows surprisingly well for a new place. Many options are more fusion than tradition, which is great if that's what you are looking for, or 'busy' if you are not. While they have all the traditional items that sushi goers would want, you have to ask if you want a basic roll, as they are able to turn even a spicy scallop roll into something else. The food is all very tasty, with interesting specials, there is really nothing at all to complain about. The sushi is fresh, with interesting combinations, and while pricey, it is not more than the Japanese restaurants in the area. They incorporate a lot of other non-seafood items into their 'sushi' retinue, such as beef maki and other westernized rolls, which I haven't tried, but it looks interesting. Personally, I tend to be more of a traditionalist, so I stuck with the basics, but it might be fun to go back and try the more unusual items. The wait staff is very friendly, and the restaurant is small enough to be cozy but set up in a way to not feel crowded. Overall, a nice addition to an area with a very limited selection of Japanese food. - Warren R.
